TO JOIN THE PUBLIC SERVICE OF THE THE GOVERNMENT OF BOTSWANA

Exciting and rewarding professional opportunities exist in Botswana for well-qualified, motivated and disciplined Professionals to participate in the establishment of two new Hospitals while gaining a significant amount of General Health Care Experience. With the establishment of a new Medical School in the country, Health Care Professionals will have the opportunity to practice and conduct research as foundation specialists in these teaching Hospitals while collaborating with faculty at the Medical School.

In return for focused and productive work, the Government of Botswana offers a 24 - 36 month initial, renewable contract with competitive salaries and a moderate cost of living that will afford successful candidates the opportunity to save a substantial nest egg while working and living in the country that is described as the success story of Africa. The salary ranges, essential qualifications and job requirements are as follows:

MEDICAL SPECIALISTS:

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS or MB ChB), MD or equivalent. MS. FRCS or equivalent post graduate degree in Surgery. Teaching and Research experience will be an added advantage.

1. (2 POSTS) INTENSIVIST (E2 SCALE)

MS or equivalent post graduate degree in Internal Medicine and registration with a Medical Special Board in Internal Medicine. Applicants must have served satisfactorily as a Specialist in Internal Medicine for a minimum 3 years experience after post graduate studies in an ICU setting.

2. (2 POSTS) NEONATOLOGIST (E2 SCALE)

MMed (paeds) or MRCP or equivalent in Paediatrics. Applicants must have served satisfactorily as Specialist Neonatologist for a minimum of 3 years after post graduate studies.

3. (2 POSTS) CARDIOLOGIST (E2 SCALE)

MS and FRCS or equivalent in Surgery. Applicants must have served satisfactorily as Cardiologist Surgeon for a minimum of 3 years after post graduate studies.


4. (8 POSTS) ANAESTHESIST (E2 SCALE)

Masters Degree in Anaesthesiology or equivalent post graduate in Anaesthesiology. Applicant must have served satisfactorily as a Specialist Anaesthesist for a minimum of 3 years after post graduate studies.

5. (2 POSTS) NEUROLOGIST (E2 SCALE)

MS or equivalent in Neurology. Applicants must have served satisfactorily as Specialist Neurology for a minimum 3 years after post graduate studies.

6. (2 POSTS) GASTROENTEROLOGIST (E2 SCALE)

MS or equivalent post graduate degree in Internal Medicine (Gastroenterology). Applicants must have served satisfactorily as Specialist Gastroenterologist for a minimum of 3 years after post graduate studies.

7. (4 POSTS) PSYCHIATRIST (E2 SCALE)

MS or equivalent post graduate degree in Psychiatry. Applicants must have served satisfactorily as Specialist Psychiatrist for a minimum of 3 years after post graduate studies in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of Mental, Addictive and Emotional Disorders.

8. (8 POSTS) PUBLIC HEALTH SPECIALISTS (E2 SCALE)

A Master degree in Public Health Specialization or a Doctorate of Public Health degree is required. Applicants must have served satisfactorily as Public Health Specialist for a minimum of 3 years after post graduate studies. Successful applicants will be handling, maintaining and improving the physical, mental and environmental health of communities and populations, especially in cities and assess and monitor risk for disease and ensure that comtnrmities have appropriate health care.

OTHER MEDICAL VACANCIES

9. (32 POSTS) SENIOR PHARMACIST (D4 SCALE)

Bachelor of Pharmacy or equivalent. A post graduate degree in Clinical Pharmacy related specialty is an added advantage. A minimum of 6 years post qualification experience preferably in a clinical pharmacy environment and must be eligible for Registration with the Botswana Health Professionals Council after successfully taking and passing an examination. Adequate knowledge of Drug Management, Drug Policy and General Management is necessary.


10. (10 POSTS) MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST (D4 SCALE)

Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences/Laboratory Technology. Masters Degree in a related field will be an added advantage. A minimum of 4 years experiences. Successful applicants will provide specialized, quality laboratory services on a 24 hour basis within a medical laboratory as well as participate in research and epidemic disease surveillance, monitoring and control.

11. (10 POSTS) SENIOR DIETICIAN (D4 SCALE)

A Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics. Masters Degree in a related field will be an added advantage. A minimum of 4 years experience. Successful applicants will coordinate sub functions within health facility to ensure smooth delivery of nutritional care.

12. (16 POSTS) DIETICIAN I (C1 SCALE)

B.Sc. degree in Nutrition/Dietetic. A minimum of 2 years post qualification experience exclusive of internship. Successful applicants will provide a wider range of clinical dietetic services.

13. (10 POSTS) PHARMACY TECHNICIAN (C1, C2, C3, & C4 SCALES)

B.Sc. Degree in Pharmacy or Diploma in Pharmacy and must be eligible for Registration with the Botswana Health Professionals Council after successfully taking and passing an examination. Experience requirement is 5 years for Diploma holders. No experience is required for Degree holders.

**Remarks: The Salary Scale mentioned above is merely an INDICATION only as it may vary depending on the number of years of experience of the successful applicant and the Exchange Rate between US Dollars (USD) and Botswana Pula (BWP).

Other Benefits: 1. Gratuity at 25% at the end of First Contract (24 to 36 months), 27.5% at the end of Second Contract and 30% at the end of Third and subsequent Contracts.
